Social media isn't just a place to share content.
It's an opportunity to humanize your brand and show off the people who make up your team.
Posting human photos
Share personal photos. If you have an account, you probably already do this. But if not, here’s what it looks like:
I took this photo with my camera while sitting on my balcony in the middle of winter.
My dog likes to chew on things when he gets bored (close up of his face).
This is me and my friend eating ice cream at the beach (we were wearing sunglasses).
This is me holding a big fish that I caught during our vacation in Hawaii (I enjoyed the sunsets there).
Sharing behind-the-scenes videos
Social media is a great way to share behind-the-scenes videos of your business.
Showing people who you are and what you do can be an excellent way to humanize your company, especially if the video shows something that is unique about your business.
Showing off your team
Show off your team!!
People love seeing other people, and it’s the most effective way to show that you’re a real, live business. It can be as simple as a smiling photo of one of your employees in the office—or even better, a video. Instagram videos are great for this because they let you add sound and movement to create an even more compelling experience for viewers.
And don’t forget about those customers! If someone is using your product or service in an interesting way that shows how versatile it is (or how much they love it), definitely post about it! For example, if someone posts a picture of herself wearing one of our shirts on vacation with friends in Paris...well, we may just have to jump into her comments section and thank her for showing us how much fun she’s having while wearing our products!
Having fun with memes and GIFs
We've all seen memes and GIFs in our Facebook feeds, usually accompanied by a witty or relatable caption. They're a great way to humanize your brand and increase engagement on social media, so let's take a look at how you can use them in your posts.
First off, you need to find the right meme for your post.
This means looking at what is trending at the moment (keeping in mind that anything too current will probably be dated quickly), choosing one that fits with your brand voice and target audience, and making sure there are no copyright issues involved. For example, let's say you're posting about sustainability: if there is an image of Barack Obama saying "Yes we can" being used as part of the meme itself—not just for context—you may want to avoid using it because it could be considered copyright infringement unless proper permission has been obtained by whoever created this particular image.
Once you've found an appropriate meme or GIF, make sure it fits with what else is going on in your post! If there's already plenty of text-based content on screen but then suddenly comes along an animated cat doing something crazy (like wearing sunglasses), it might end up detracting from everything else rather than adding value... which defeats the purpose entirely!
Your social media accounts need to be more than just an uninspiring place to share content.
The problem with social media is that it's easy for businesses to get in the habit of posting content without thinking about what they're doing. While it's important for your followers to see new posts from you, if all you're doing is sharing content without any personalization or engagement, then there's no reason for them to care about following your accounts at all!
The solution?
Be creative in how you use social media—and humanize your brand. It might seem counterintuitive at first, but building relationships with customers on social platforms like Facebook and Twitter means more than just posting updates every now and then; today's consumers are looking for brands who understand them as people.
They want a company they can relate to; someone who understands their struggles and shares their values.
This isn't always easy (especially if you're not used to talking about feelings), but finding ways to make this happen will help differentiate yourself from other companies vying for attention online—and that could mean the difference between success and failure in the long run!
Social media is a huge part of our lives these days, so it’s important to humanize your accounts and make them fun to engage with. If you want people to take notice of what you have to say, then show off your personality and give them something interesting to look at. Your social media should be more than just an uninspiring place for sharing content; it should be an exciting space where people can get engaged with each other too!
